1 dead, 14 wounded, including 14-year-old girl, in Chicago shootings


One man was killed and at least 14 people, including a 14-year-old girl, have been injured in shootings across the city between Wednesday and Thursday mornings, Chicago police said.
A 20-year-old man was shot to death and another man, 18, wounded in the 2300 block of East 102nd Street in the South Deering neighborhood on the Southeast Side about 8:10 p.m., police said in a media notification. The 20-year-old was found in a gangway with gunshot wounds to the abdomen, and was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. The other man also suffered a gunshot wound to the abdomen, and went in a private vehicle to Advocate Trinity Hospital, where he was in serious condition. A witness told police the 20-year-old was sitting in a car with someone at East 102nd Street and South Ogelsby Avenue and the 18-year-old was was walking toward the car, possibly to get in, when someone fired shots from a silver Chevy Impala traveling east on 102nd.
The man who was killed was identified as Marques Lewis, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office. He was pronounced dead at 8:42 p.m.
The girl was in the 9300 block of South Jeffery Boulevard in the Pill Hill neighborhood about 7 p.m. when she was shot in the stomach, police said in a media notification. She was near a bus stop when someone inside a red car fired shots, police said. The girl was taken to Comer Children's Hospital, where her condition was stabilized.
Just before 7:45 p.m., a 17-year-old boy was shot in the 8900 block of South Phillips Avenue in the Calumet Heights neighborhood. He suffered a gunshot wound to the groin and his condition was stabilized at Advocate Trinity Hospital.
Police were also investigating a rifle attack that left a 23-year-old man with a gunshot wound to his knee. The shooting happened just before 12:50 a.m. in the 9100 block of South Ada Street in the Brainerd neighborhood, police said. The man said he was standing outside when two gunmen opened fire. He was taken to Stroger Hospital in good condition.
In other shootings:
-A 23-year-old man was shot multiple times in the stomach and lower body in the Portage Park neighborhood on the Northwest Side just after 12:50 a.m. Thursday, police said. The man got into an argument with someone in the 5700 block of West Irving Park Road, and that person took out a gun and shot the man. He was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in critical condition.
-On the West Side, a 46-year-old woman was shot in the abdomen and wrist in the Humboldt Park neighborhood about 10:50 p.m., police said. The woman was standing outside with her boyfriend in the 1000 block of North Lawndale Avenue when a man got out of a vehicle and shot her, police said. She was taken to Stroger Hospital in good condition.
-Just before 6:50 p.m., a 17-year-old boy and a 50-year-old man were wounded in a shooting in the 4800 block of West Washington Boulevard in the Austin neighborhood, police said. The man suffered a gunshot wound to the left thigh and right leg. The boy was shot in the right hand and suffered a graze wound to the chest. They both were in good condition at Stroger Hospital. The two told police they were walking when they heard shots and realized they had been shot.
-In the Longwood Manor neighborhood, a 35-year-old man suffered four gunshot wounds to the chest and one to the shoulder in the 1200 block of West 96th Street about 6:30 p.m., police said in a media notification. Friends took him to Little Company of Mary Hospital in Evergreen Park and he was transferred to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, in critical condition. Witnesses were at first uncooperative, but investigators later learned he had been sitting in a passenger seat in a parked car when someone came up on foot and shot him, police said.
-A 51-year-old man was shot in a robbery in the 9300 block of South Justine Avenue in the Brainerd neighborhood about 6:15 p.m., police said in a media notification. He was walking three people came up to him, announced a robbery and took his wallet, police said. One of the robbers shot the man in the upper left shoulder. He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in serious condition, police said.
-About 5:05 p.m. in the first block of North Lorel Avenue in the Austin neighborhood, a 31-year-old man was outside when a gunman walked up to him and fired shots, police said. He suffered gunshot wounds to the leg and was taken to Stroger Hospital where his condition had stabilized.
-Just before 1:15 p.m in the 6600 block of South Halsted Street in the Englewood neighborhood, a 28-year-old man was shot and another man was hurt by broken glass, police said. The 28-year-old was wounded in the left thigh and was taken to Stroger Hospital where he was in good condition.
-A little before 12:30 p.m., two men, ages 22 and 23, were shot in the 5200 block of West Adams Street in the Austin neighborhood. The older man was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital for treatment of a gunshot wound to the leg and the younger man went to Loretto Hospital for treatment of a gunshot wound to the foot. They were both treated and released, said Officer Thomas Sweeney, a police spokesman. The two were sitting on a porch when someone came up and shot them, police said. Police originally had given Adams Street as the attack's address.
No one was in custody.
